 Through a filtered yet gutter, Detroit-worn voice, rapper, Best Addit, mutters “I got a milli’ on my mind, nobody’s stopping mine.”. This comes a few seconds past the beginning loop of a synth-sample, and just bars early of the lyrical annihilation Addit unbolts. A street-shaking 808 barrels into the track, chaperoned by snares, hihats, and the Midwest madman’s own nonchalant delivery. Yes, Best Addit is cool, calm, and collected when telling the stories of his endeavors and upbringing; as if their realities have already been accepted in his veteran mind. From grinding in the streets, attracting women, and watching his back; the Motor City rapper lays out the ambitions of a hustler in “Milli On My Mind”. The music video compliments his narrative; showcasing Best Addit in a variety of settings, cloaked in a shadowy greyscale of black and white. Nothing short of an anthem, Best Addit’s trap single “Milli On My Mind” is certain to make a splash on every block surrounding the Great Lakes.

In a gorgeous collaboration of heavenly, puritan Hip-Hop, Virginia rapper, Kevin Calhoun, accompanied by the seraphic vocals of Breanna Martin, deliver unto us “For The World”. The record is a four minute thanks to God for blessing our DMV emcee with the basic essence of life. As he mentions through sharp, thought-provoking bars, Kevin Calhoun does not have the ideal life. Poverty, and myriad other tribulations have chipped away at the rapper, day in and day out. Yet, what he stresses over this soulful chord progression, and jogging Golden Era drums, is that the bare luxuries of life are enough to be grateful for. Family, music, and the simple ability to breathe, that we all take for granted, these are the elements that make the struggles of life tolerable. They complete him; and for that, Kevin would not change them “For The World”. This record is radiating with wisdom and maturity. A message I am certain this talented writer wants each and every listener to internalize and value. He delivers it flawlessly; and Breanna Martin’s silky, R&B hook is the ribbon on top. Thanksgiving may be over, but it’s never too late to rejoice in all the things you’re thankful for. Do so beautifully, with Kevin Calhoun’s “For The World”.

Fresh off the heels of a stellar homage to Golden Era rap, Kevin Calhoun returns with another dynamite track; and this time, he’s bringing a little bounce along. Empowered by the luscious, R&B presence of Drizzle Gwala, the DC emcee gifts us with an ode to blooming love on the radio-ready “Shoot Your Shot”. Certainly, this three minute and thirty-seven second record has all the necessary ingredients for a commercial hit. There is an addictive, 808-driven instrumental, satisfied by trap snares and a narcotic, kick rhythm. However, if you are looking for a mindless single, this track is not for you. Despite how radio-friendly this smooth, R&B-Hop track sounds, Kevin Calhoun will never leave us short of thought-bending rhymes. He is at the pinnacle of his penmanship on “Shoot Your Shot”, putting lyricism at the forefront of his masterpiece. Just as pure, Hip-Hop should be. This creative formula Kevin Calhoun has contrived is unbelievably bulletproof; and with “Shoot Your Shot”, this talented emcee proves ready to take the mainstream by storm.

"Gotta hustle everyday, thats all I know—" rings like a mantra on the hook of Los Angeles rapper, RAJ WILL’s, latest, titanic single “Hustle”. This Chris Beach-produced banger has all the makings of an anthem: rhythmic flow, chantable chorus, quotable lyrics and a bouncy, trap beat. “Hustle” begins with a progression of hazy, atmospheric chords, fulfilled by a prancing, futuristic synth. These provide the melodic canvas for the beat; and soon after their introduction, a pattern of drums is splattered onto the portrait. The drums are upbeat and conventional; evidence that Beach is skilled at tailoring a simple, yet infectious vibe. What happens next is evidence WILL, our rapper, is skilled at everything else needed for a national, Hip-Hop hit. The West Coast spitter hits the beat running, dropping lyrical jewels in a flurry of conversational rhymes. "Quality over the quantity, and clarity over stupidity—" he raps smoothly within his first verse, showing just how little he cares about wordplay or metaphors. 

What RAJ WILL cares most about is spitting with poise and sending a message. That message is to "Make a couple stacks, spend a bit / Make it right back, that’s without a doubt—". If ever you are feeling unmotivated, no matter your profession, throw on this two minute, Billboard-ready single and you are guaranteed to bounce right back to that “Hustle” you do so well.
