The city of Philadelphia is breeding a powerhouse. An imprint of epic potential that could very well be the next leading label of ‘The Birthplace of America’. Known as Born Made Bosses Music Group (BMB), this East Coast collective is spearheading consciousness and the revival of boom-bap; utilizing their latest tape, ‘Soul & Spice Vol. 1’, as a swift introduction into their lasting magnificence. Sporting seven tracks, and seven tracks alone, the effort is fully produced by JSoul Musiq (BMB’s first artist and in-house producer). Over twenty minutes of runtime, our New Orleanian beat-maker splices sweet, soul samples with punching, Golden Era drums. These instrumentals lay the foundation of some of CG QUE’s (BMB’s head honcho), JSoul Musiq’s, and Super K’s most impassioned and thought-provoking verses; returning the essence of organic hip-hop to ‘The City of Brotherly Love’. Granted, a couple tracks feature modern percussions— with ‘Kryptic’ being a powerful, 808-driven rhyme-fest; and Atiya’s ‘What I Need’ braving shimmering R&B vocals over soft kicks and trap snares— they do not subtract from the project’s cohesive, old-school sound. Their equivalent use of soul samples is an adhesive that binds these records to the other joints on the project; keeping ‘Soul & Spice Vol. 1’ a smooth-flowing, nostalgic affair. Every artist spotlighted on this project uniquely holds their own; offering another dimension of brilliance to ‘Soul & Spice Vol. 1’ that hadn’t existed before their part. In twenty minutes, these artists combine and create something remarkable. Just imagine what they’ll be presenting us years down the line. If Philadelphia had no hope in R&B and the revival of Golden Era Hip-Hop, they certainly have one now; and Born Made Bosses is leading the way.

We recently caught up with suave conscious rap spitter, CG Que for to get the story behind thejoint project "Soul & Spice Vol. 1". Peep the in-depth FB LIVE interview above on the TheDopeness interview series.

Six tracks is all it took for Mute Davinci to set fire to 2019. With his latest EP, “Breaking News”, the Tennessee rapper transforms slow-burning grooves into anthemic trap jams. Flaunting an immaculate command of melody, autotune, and songwriting, Mute will wholly ignite your mood for the summer. Cuts such as “Nobody”, “Be Around” (feat. Sire), and “RIP Jumpout” will put you in an ethereal trap trance; glinted by thumping 808s, amorous drums, and mild melodies. Do not get us wrong: there are a couple tracks on “Breaking News” that are completely capable of rocking your next house party. However, the overall energy cultivated by this Chattanooga native on this six-track debut is gentle and sublime. He is one of those few artists in our tide of modern music who has found the model matrimony between Hip-Hop and R&B. With it, he’s devoted himself to delivering us banger, after banger, after banger. Undeniably, Mute Davinci is “Breaking News”. Start one listen, and you won’t be changing channels any time soon.

With their first three projects, “Koinda Vol. 1”, “Koinda Vol. 2”, and “Koinda Vol. 2.5” (Producers Only Album), the Koindanomics collective succeeded in bringing their worldly agenda new light. They focused greatly on showcasing talents from around the world; cultivating international bodies of work that spread their message of global growth, community, and love. Now, after all of that amazing externality, Koinda Records are changing directions; dedicating their latest installment, “Koinda Vol. 3”, to the power of self. Presented as a “meditation album”, this eight-track opus is devoted entirely to spiritual betterment and growth. For its four zen-ful, mind-calming instrumentals, the collective tapped A-Rell and See See Beats. For the three “guided meditations”, Ace Burns is our tranquil host. Albeit, only three notable parties are spotlighted on this project, the strength of Koinda Records, as a whole, is still awesomely felt. Their agenda to impact, enlighten and heal the world around them illuminates even brighter with “Koinda Vol. 3”; further proving the magnitude of this collective’s potential.

After having released their first installment in the “Koinda” series a little over a month ago, the powergroup Koindanomics has returned with “Koinda Vol. 2”. Contrary to their last effort, “Koinda Vol. 2” proffers a total of fifteen tracks with a revised cast of stars. Verily, this project sees the recurrence of the first’s phenomenal artists, such as P5YCHONOMIXXX, BLAKFIST, CG Que, and Brian Nightingale; however, it likewise bolsters new, illuminating talent. JSoul delivers a soulful, boom-bap chop for the album’s intro; Marrani is moving with a Afro-beat tirade, “Olisa”; Esco and Ace Burns light up the party with a terrific, trap banger, “Someone Do It For Me”; and BYNO delivers a cinematic, R&B jam through “Once Bitten Twice Shy”. The album is an amalgam; yet, soul is as present as ever before. “Koinda Vol. 2.” is abundant with well-crafted, mesmerizing music. With so many distinct, emotive flavors pulled in from the world around, it paves an identical path of success to its predecessor: uniting everyone through the objective of economic empowerment. That is the goal of Koindanomics; and with a project as appealing as this, their message is rings even louder across the globe.

Next Friday we are in for a treat. Following Valentines Day, while we are all still wrapped in the arms and sheets of that special someone, James Doe is dropping his new, MizzHitz Beatz-produced single, “Set It Off”. This record is the quintessential, February smash. Seductive hihats prance across an amorous bash of chords and melodies. Likewise, a gliding 808 bass and smoldering, trap percussion forwards a groove only the most sensual, R&B jams can ferment. As a vocalist, James Doe only elevates the track’s potential. With a Chicago spirit, flavored by Dallas living, the crooner slings melodious, sing-song bars throughout the track. Each drop of a snare; each heartfelt pound of a kick, is chaperoned by hot-blooded harmonies and lustful lyrics. Certainly, “Set It Off” has earned a spot in next week’s bedside playlist; and through its release, James Doe will solidify himself as a R&B talent we must keep our ears on.

Slow and solemn, a haze of ambiance glides floats along your peripherals. Before this chill completely engulfs you, a warm 808 splits it in half, and the tap of a rimshot pushes gentle, West Coast crooning into the mix. It is rising, Los Angeles R&B talent, DMNS; wrapped in autotune, formally welcoming you to his latest single, “Sacrifices”. And it is an ethereal welcome, to say the least. The rattle of subtle hi-hats and bounce of R&B drums will guide you through the melodic mist of the record; whilst DMNS’s flavorful, reverberating harmonies tug at the very threads of your heart and soul. “For you I make sacrifices...” he sings, backed by arctic ad-libs and vocal alternates; whose presence create this unique duality for the song. Yes, our singer’s delivery and intentions are warm, however, the reality that surrounds him is callus, cruel and cold. For his warmth to be felt; for DMNS’s love to truly be cherished, he must make “Sacrifices”. That realization is what brings us this chilling, alternative R&B record; and this chilling, alternative R&B record will be the reason DMNS is eventually on everyone’s radar.
