An earth-moving synth progression jump starts King Pablo’s “Zombieland”, foreshadowing an unimaginable banger to come. To fulfill that prophecy, the Denton artist hits the mic with a melodic torrent of bars; and after fifteen seconds, this Texan smash is mobile. What King Pablo wants us to know, most of all, with this three minute anthem, is that he is back from the dead. After a four year hiatus, The Lonestar emcee has to resurrected; and his first order of business is giving us a trunk-rattling taste of “Young Rebel”, his upcoming debut. To that end, “Zombieland” is flawless. It features the Southern artist spinning through synths, 808s, and lively trap drums, in a blur of melody and autotune. Both elements swing his rhymes into irresistible territory, making “Zombieland” a track you won’t be able to deny. Certainly, King Pablo has been gone for quite some time. However, with a track like this, he has thrust his palm from the grave, and gripped the Texas rap game.

 Inarguably, we have been blessed with a rich lineage of female, R&B talent. From the 90s/early 2000 smashes of the late, legend Aaliyah; to the eclectic slow jams of Janet Jackson, and celestial climb of Beyonce; every generation has had that songstress who completely captivates our hearts. Now, it seems the current generation will be blessed with their own. A Queen of Hearts, laying in the middle of the deck, just waiting to be shuffled to the top. That is Leanna Love; and if our words aren’t enough to convince you of her radiant potential, “Chillin” certainly will. Having flown from her nest in Chicago, to settle down in Arizona, this Midwestern songbird comes with her latest, modern-R&B bop, in aim to shake the game. A vibrant melody; contained by trap percussions and slamming 808s, creates a club-ready bed for “Chillin”. One on which Leanna’s mystical vocals can peacefully lay. The Chicago-born, Arizona-residing singer/songwriter utterly erupts across this record, writhing through harmonies and power vocals with peerless grace. A grace only comparable to the greats mentioned before; and that is precisely why “Chillin”, as well as any succeeding banger she plans to release, will soon have Leanna Love standing right beside them.

Even in March, the Valentines Day emotions are still rolling in. One artist, intent on this season of sensuosity continuing, is Benji Kriis. In a glowing wave of autotune, the New Jersey crooner lets every lady know where to go for love: “Hotel Rendezvous”. This two minute record is the paragon of modern R&B. Melodious, impassioned vocals, illuminated by delay and autotune, coast a gentle, trap-ladened beat. Lyrics, regarding Benji’s growing lust for this female character, poke through floating bells and a slow-rolling bassline. All the while, a ravishing fog is growing thicker and thicker around you. He has been building hype with an array of singles for months. Now, Portland, Oregon’s Trevor Haze is ready for mainstream spotlight; displayed by dropping his anticipated, radioactive debut “Tragic$tory” to thousands of plays. Numbers have immediately ran up on this awaited, 15 track LP; especially on joints such as “Been Thru This Before”, “Lately”, “Fell In Love Again”, and “Sometimes”. Why? Simple: their creator wields a command over melody and exceptional ear for beats that so few of his contemporaries can parallel. Like a romantic molasses, Da Twin Prince will slowly slide into your heart. Not empty-handed either; in tow, will be his brand new, anthemic love-song, “Preparation and Practice”; all you’ll need to fall head over heels for this Brooklyn talent. As custom of new-wave, alternative R&B, “Preparation and Practice” is commenced with a pitched down vocal sample. The Farro Jarro production is then spruced up with the surge of a voluptuous bassline; accentuated by sprinkles of snaps and the eventual onset of torrid, trap drums. Over it all, Da Twin Prince gives a performance fitting for the new year. Both vocally and lyrically, the East Coast crooner seems refined on this record. He easily slips into heart-turning harmonies and amorous melodies, both devoted to sending a significant message to his significant other: any one before him was just “Preparation and Practice” for the love he’ll give. When a penchant for songwriting meets a talented taste for melody, artists like Da Twin Prince naturally result. And when that force is at its most sensuous, infectious peak, bangers like “Preparation and Practice” must be anticipated. Just wait until the radio gets a hold of this. Da Twin Prince will have everyone from New York, and beyond, singing right along.
