It is extremely rare to see veterans link up with up-and-comers; and even rarer that a radio-ready banger comes of that fateful encounter. For your freshest dose of rarity and originality, the lovely Tanya Nolan presents visuals of her Kirko Bangz-assisted hit, “Love Ya”. Clocking in just short of three minutes, this record is a relatable, emotive dive into R&B. However, its sonics are only half of the equation. The other half is fulfilled by pristine scenes of Tanya Nolan, characters, and Kirko Bangz himself. For every strike on an amorous, organ chord; every step of a trap kick, stuttering hi-hat, and snare’s fall, there is a breath-taking shot of the Texan songbird harmonizing through an aching heart. When Bangz enters the video, the Houston power reaches a climax; with the auto-tuned star crooning to and fro in the studio. Truly, “Love Ya” is a cottony, soul-stirring record; wherein, the romantic turmoils of a rising talent and established star combine to manifest a passionate smash. As Tanya Nolan’s first, prominent release of 2019? Her voice will be ringing throughout our minds for many months to come.

 “Who am I s’posed to trust?! It’s like they’re all out to get me...” will be ringing through your head by the end of Lilman’s latest release. The Bay Area-born, Pittsburg, CA-based rapper is indomitable on this new banger; burning holes through the track with an incendiary series of bars. Melodies, embellished by sparkling guitars and reverberated pianos, are scorched to a crisp the moment Lilman aims for the beat. He blazes through lyrics regarding the turbulence of his addictions, personal life, and street life; as well as the damage all three have done to his reliance. Under this heat, even the galloping trap drums have melted into his delivery. All in all, “Who Im Supposed To Trust” is an exciting, new smash from the Money Star Mob talent. By the end of his chorus, Lilman chants “Oh, you think that gun really makes you tough?!”; erupting with a pure, fiery energy that welds a hot trap anthem right beneath his belt.

Dancers get on your marks.. Get set.. Go!!! On-the-verge rapper Kioi Ayize is right back with a certified club anthem "Go Girl". This time the Oakland artist sets his aim at the stripclub with an uptempo new-age slapper that is sure to get any party started! There’s a pure, shining spirituality dwelling within Wisconsin singer/producer, Tanner Mitchell Zingsheim’s, recent cut, “V01D”. Under his alias, Spectrum Bender, the Colgate, devout Christian seeks to seal every last one of us in a vacuum of love; doing so through a marriage of poignant proclamation and prismatic production. The lustrous track kicks off with a buttery chord progression; satisfied solely by a recurring kick-drum, and Bender’s gentle croon. It is incredibly minimal in the totality of its glory, before converging into several evolutions of grandiose, pop production. Once upon the hook, “V01D” accelerates its aforementioned kick drum into a progressive, four-to-the-floor rhythm, backed by glittering, electronic percussions. Eventually, these elements transcend into instrumental interludes, where a trotting kick and 808 snare carry a surge of intricate key and synth breakdowns. Near the end of this productive gorgeousness, we are circled back to Bender’s chorus, where he once again breathes “Into the void we welcome love”. 

Verily, this Midwest talent puts God and Christ first; as there is a holy undertone to this entire creation. His attention, and furthermore, appreciation for detail results in a heavenly, pop opus only the heartless could reject. Even as “V01D” goes quiet, at the end of its two minute and twenty-seven seconds of excellence, that won’t be the end of your engagement with Bender. You’ll be dying to explore the rest of his magical catalogue.

There’s a ghostly echo that slithers across the beginning of this single, “Obsessed”, and it will immediately put you in a particular mindset. Reminiscent of many autotuned anthems before it, you will start anticipating a modern-trap, party record. Yet, just as you are awaiting the impact of an infectious, melodic chorus, Canadian rapper, JSTN DMND, comes from left-field in a flurry of bars. That’s not to say “Obsessed” isn’t fit for the club scene or radio play. On the contrary, a vibrant hook, bathed in melodious autotune, does grace the mix later; backed by the sprint of trap violins, hihats, snares, and a pounding kick-808 combination. This record would have no problem exciting a crowd. It’s simply that those elements aren’t the primary focus for our Ontario artist. What JSTN DMND proves to place more value in is his lyricism and delivery; rapping some honest, yet incinerating bars, at speeds that will scorch you as they pass. There’s a fire in his lungs, spawning from the passion and dedication he has to his children. He makes it a point to let us know throughout the record that his daughter and son are the only reasons he can even bless the booth with his talents, and deliver such an astounding trap smash. JSTN DMND shows a remarkable duality on this track; proving to be lethal with bars, and lovable with his melodies. This is an invaluable combination in the current climate of Hip-Hop, and if he continues proving just how “Obsessed” he is with his family and craft, Canada will be crowning another king of the charts very, very soon.

The disappearance of cliques such as Three Six Mafia, UGK, and 8Ball & MJG left unpredicted fissures in the rap game. Ever since that Southern domination of so many years ago, mainstream Hip-Hop has been missing something. Missing that raw, boondock bounce that had so many clubs rocking and Cadillac speakers knocking. Although, a return to form is indeed brewing in Memphis; none is as encapsulating as new-age rapper, Kreep. Through his new album, “Sorry, I’m Late”, loaded with 13 hot records, the Alabama native fills a void we should have never created, in the first place. Because, by the end of this opus, it’s crystal clear why that era of Southern Hip-Hop was one of its greatest: its rawness and honesty. There’s a preternatural darkness hugging many corners of the album, where flexing and bragging have no place; and only Kreep’s truth can illuminate. Laced by the most quintessential, country 808s; our Heart of the Dixie rapper will lyrically pull you into his real life. He bounces across tracks such as “Actin’ Up II”, “Fiya”, “Don’t Count Me Out”, “Emotions”, “Realest Illest”, “Bout Dat Life” and “Drell’s Tale” with a nostalgic, Three Six-esque cadence, fully disclosing the griminess of his environment and circumstances. 




Although, Kreep defines himself as a new-age artist; he does not conform to that paradigm. He shows in multiple moments of this project, that he would rather his audience have something honest and real, ripped straight from his own trials and tribulations, to relate to; instead of flaunt money or drugs like everyone else. Personal favorites on this album have to be, “My Girlfriend” and “Bout Dat Life”. The former for its irresistible, vintage sample, strong 808s and impeccable story; and the latter for its pure, late-90s aesthetic. If you are a fan of early, organic Southern Hip-Hop, this album is worth every second of your listen. The Heart of the Dixie is pumping once again; and Kreep is the one to thank.

It was once said that stars are born and not made. It has also been said that they are born everyday, so it wouldnt surprise me if a little favor has been shown to the home of the Hollywood Stars. One listen to L.A.'s own, Hollywood Mac and you can tell he was born to be a star. Mac, who recieved his nickname in high school is dropping his debut solo single "Hundo." The L.A. emcee hops on the speaker quaking, infectious head banger effortlessly spitting bars of gold, all while keeping the club moving. 


Hollywood Mac ironically spent years running a club before stepping to the mic and exercising his natural gift. Mac is the son of two musicians(father is a drummer, mother is a singer), it was inevitable that he would one day make dope music of his own. Back in 2006, legendary New York emcee, Nas, declared that Hip-Hop was dead. The insurgence of autotune, melodies, and growing “pop” aesthetic in the music, made this declaration incredibly logical. Even modern day, where the culture is leaning further and further towards a commodity instead of artform; Golden Hip-Hop seems to have lost its place with the turn of the century. That’s what makes rap act, Lockness Carnival’s, recent release “Tickets To The Dope Show” such a blindsided sucker-punch; loud enough to throttle the graveyard, and awaken that Golden Age artistry from its deathly slumber. “Tickets To The Dope Show” is a seven-track resurrection of one of the most celebrated eras of rap; hearkening back to the 90s time period with a beautiful blend of lyricism and old-school production. The only exception to this is the second track, “Urban Litty” which features a more new-age, electronic beat. Everything else follows a strict, satisfying rubric; with which the emcee, Dark Angel, shines impeccably across his producer, Strange’s, instrumentation. Dark Angel has a powerful affinity with imagery and storytelling; and he uses such to paint the most polarizing portraits. There are strong horrorcore themes locked in the stories of “Margo Santana” and “Hector”, yet backed by Strange’s warm, vinyl-singed primeval production, this imagery becomes eerily gorgeous. Another great element of this duo is that they do not solely rely on music to tell their tales. In the middle of the project, there are skits and snippets that fit flawlessly between Angel’s own verses, giving his stories even greater dimensionality. “Tickets To The Dope Show” is an outstanding blast to the past from two amazing creatives. If Hip-Hop is dead, they’ll be of the few to thank for its revival.

That describes New York City based hip hop/R&B duo MAJIX (pronounced “magic”) who are set to explode onto the music scene. With the release of their single “Regular ”, Taylor Nirvana Jones and Mea Wilkerson exude the requisite hustle, independence and inyourface confidence that comes along with living in New York City.


It takes endless amounts of creativity and experimentation before chemistry builds and MAJIX is created! These 2 young ladies are powerful. Their new single “Regular” highlights just how special they are. These lyrical songbirds have been putting in work for a strong seven years, originally going by the name Love Jones Girlz before ultimately reinvinting themselves in 2016. “Regular” is an eargasmic fusion of dope trap bars meshed with sensational vocals over a groovy beat produced by VH1's MRose, B3B3, and Genedaox. The genius is in its clever songwriting using a cultural metaphor to set themselves apart from the rest. MAJIX's unique abilities confirm that they are not regular and their impact wont be either.

Sometimes you instantly recognize a rarity, sometimes you confuse that rarity with another that you may have heard or seen before. Sidthatsit is a rarity. His music is straight out of house Kanye and Cudi built with a very Rap Noir(if thats not a thing it is now) sound. The Chicago kid gifts 2018 with his new Album bLACK eGG. The project consists of nine incredible tracks. It is a very impressive work of art from top to bottom. The content, production, and arrangement of this project are absolutely on point. bLACK eGG is full of tales of ambition, depression, drug experimentation, and heartache. It is a great fusion of uptempo head banging slappers and dark melodic ballads. Off of the top of my head this album gives me that Kanye West 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' or Travis Scott 'Before the Rodeo' feel. I see a dark(pun intended) career ahead for this future star. Afterall, Sidthatsit is a rarity. As rare as an bLACK eGG.

With all of the beef and hoopla surrounding Hip Hop at the current moment, how about a song for the brothers? Well, if you have been looking for that one uplifting the (Black) man, lucky for you, we've got it. "Negus" yes I said Negus, is the latest single from incredible vocalist, Mahogany Soul. The word Negus is of Ethiopian origin which translates to Black Royalty, King, Ruler, Supreme. The Los Angeles Songstress kicks game to the brothers encouraging elevation and transformation. Strong lyrics such as "when Niggas turn to Gods, when Negus turn to Gods, it 's amazing" explains her premise very clearly. Mahogany Soul creates music that is empowering and light on the soul. Her musical influence 90's and early 2000's Hip Hop and Soul. Negus has a great mellow vibe and reminds me of a Hip Hop Soul Angie Stone or Lauryn Hill type of song. Keep your eyes open for Mahogany's first EP "Evolve-Lution" this summer. If Negus is any indication of what's to come, we should be expecting great things.

2018. A time when the world is ran by social media and those that are using it. With everyone constantly tuned into their media platform of choice to check out the latest and newest, sometimes its a relief to get away from it all. Virginia native, Pariyah is doing just that. The 23 year old label head/artist is back with his new-age trap anthem, "M.I.A." Pariyah who embraces being a self proclaimed loner, says the premise around his new song is just about him going off of the grid to focus on his progress. He believes that often we get caught up in what is going on in the lives of others that we don't focus enough on ourselves. I couldn't agree more. M.I.A. is jamming too. This slapper is equipped with powerful lyrics and trunk thumping production that will keep you nodding uncontrollably whether you are on or staying low off of the grid. Fall into the new single today!
